Just like the title suggests, what car gets too much praise?

I’m going to sound like a hater right now but I have to nominate the Nissan GTR. I think it gets way too much attention when it really isn’t all that special (at least I don't think s0).

What do you think, what car is way too overhyped?’

Super reliable and never needs repairs, how about no.

Mine has a collapsed seat

Needed new tie rods

Needed a new light switch

Had a broken window regulator

Wore out the sway bar bushings

Rusted through the a/c accumulator causing the a/c to lose all compressor oil and freon

Had two rims bend and crack

Had part of the ac control system brake (vaccuum failure from bad O rings)

And is now shifting hard

All to say nothing of regular maintenance (brakes, shocks, oil, batteries and bulbs)

The kicker it just hit 80,000 miles a couple weeks ago. To be fair it is a 2005 but is doesn't live up to its reputation.

A car that is designed for the track, that derates because it can’t take the track, yet still over heats after derating. I present to you the budget supercar that costs nearly as much as a GT3 once you give it options.

Yeah it is, it’s just like any other car, they all have problems and they all need repairs over time, it’s just been hyped up by people who have never owned or even driven one for a significant period of time or even at all.

Also bench seats= no lateral support= back injury and pain from cornering= not fun/painful to try to drive enthusiastically

My grandmother’s P71 throws a code that it is missing all the time. I replaced all the coil packs and sensors, the damn thing never misses.

My Excursion has a dead miss it yet it never throws a code, You’d think they use the same sensor technology on similar engines, but no.

I had temporarily bought a parts car for my grandma’s car that had been used in a movie. The parts car had bullet holes in it, was completely gutted, and had been jumped several times, but started and drove just fine.

I know their price points are disparate so its not a fair compairison, but an NSX in 1991 could not keep up with an F40 or a Diablo. It was simply a bargain performance car, or a really expensive sports car.

Fair enough. It looks and sounds better though and for what it’s worth, I wouldn’t be able to do that much hard acceleration anyway.

I could also get a 911 Turbo S which does 0-60 in 3 seconds flat if I really wanted good acceleration.

Kinja'd!!! Jedidiah > Captain of the Enterprise

It’s definitely the code for missing. I’ve checked it multiple times. The computer in the thing is just plain dumb. After working for years on cars with miles of vacuum lines and worn out distributors, I can tell whether anything is missing and this car never misses.

These Panthers can be a mixed bag sometimes but I think they a good platform to maintain for a long time. However, they have an unnecessary amount of hype. I understand why people like them and that’s mainly because they’re the last of a breed and they have little refinements like a Watt’s linkage and rack and pinion steering that you won’t find on other big sedans. Other than that, the big full-frame sedan has been redundant throughout American history and the Crown Vic certainly doesn’t deserve the title for best full frame sedan.

And that is why so many people were upset at the new Z06 being supercharged over the N/A mill in the previous one. The supercharged C6 ZR1 had the same problem and it appears that they did not adequately address it for the C7 Z06. More’s the pity, because this car should be a Porsche-slayer.

The answer is NOT always Miata.

That’s why I got a BRZ. I can’t live with a Miata as my only car. Little cargo space, and any convertible is not optimum in the snow belt.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love Miatas. I’ve owned three, and would own another one day - as a second car. Not as a daily driver.

But not all Ferraris are supercars. Only the F40 was a supercar at the time, followed by the F50 and the Enzo during the NSX’s tenure. The NSX was basically the Honda answer to the Ferrari 348, a car decidedly not super.

Even the contemporary C4 ZR-1 soundly thrashes the NSX in performance. The NSX, like the standard 911 and the 348, is honestly more about the subjective qualities rather than the raw ability. They absolutely nailed them, and that’s what makes it so good.

It came with that problem all the way up to 2011, but it was not a regular occurrence like overheating. I’m also more willing to forgive that because the LS7 is doing far crazier things than the LT4 in the C7 Z06...which doesn’t really deserve to be called an LT4 if you ask me.

I’m actually going to wager that the CTS-V has a more robust cooling system. They figure “bigger car, more weight to play with” and so didn’t cut it as close to the wire.

That said, it’s weird to me that the Z06 is having this issue. There’s tons of room under the hood of a standard C7 Stingray for all manner of toys, and they could’ve used a different charging method with some form of cooler on either side of the block (B2K Callaway-style). I’d happily accept another 80 pounds of stuff to the car if it means not overheating.

They tried that but couldn’t meet emissions targets.

They should probably try for a physically smaller block with lower displacement and turbocharging. They don’t do that, though, because the block is subsidized by truck-bound variants. I’ve read that LT, which is an old RPO code, actually stands for “Light Truck,” which is kind of hilarious.
